After the Italian war, the Renaissance radically changed the art of tapestry making. The new aesthetic form was an association of painting and tapestry. The austerity of the Middle Ages was replaced by the Italian influence which is strongly felt in this "Retour de chasse". A Lord, accompanied by his beaters, is returning to his property which we see in the distance. The picture holds all the characterised Renaissance art : composition, decor, perspective, borders of fruits, flowers and birds.
